HBA Success: HBA of South Georgia
Local HBA Achievement Profile.
Building Early Momentum
In March 2019, Executive Officer, Jill Maine had expressed interest in generating greater builder member participation with HBA Rebates to increase value of membership and as a potential non-dues revenue source for HBASG.
Jill and her executive assistant had started a campaign of promoting HBA Rebates to their Borad of Director Builder Members first. This approach was successful in getting the HBA’s most respected and recognized builders participating in HBA Rebates and provided them with a story to share with other builder members supporting participation.
A Strategy Built for Retention
Their approach created ongoing value for builders while generating additional non-dues revenue opportunities.
Administrative Process
Jill and the President developed a process of providing administrative service to builders interested in participating in HBA Rebates. Jill and the executive assistant collect Builder’s rebate claim information and prepare quarterly HBA Rebates claims.
Fee Structure
The administrative fee charged to the Builder member by HBASG for completing their quarterly HBA Rebates claim was set at 15% of the rebate received by the builder member who was provided their services.
Invoicing & Non-Dues Revenue
Once quarterly HBA Rebates checks were issued, HBASG would invoice the builder for the service of completing their quarterly claim. The builder's payment for the rebate claim processing became a source of non-dues revenue for HBASG and a retention tool for them as well.
Creating an Efficient Claims Process
The executive team at HBASG received instruction on how to prepare quarterly HBA Rebates and have worked seamlessly with Kim Klein as their in-house liaison for support in preparing quarterly rebate claims and reconciling the rebates paid to invoice the builders for services provided by the HBASG executive team.
Generating Greater Builder Participation
The effort includes additional touch points with builder members promoting HBA Rebates. This effort included:
Additional email marketing
Improved exposure on their website with membership benefits
Inclusion of HBA Rebates in new membership packets
Membership meetings
Discussion around using rebates to offset membership dues
Supporting Builder Outreach
HBA of South Georgia utilized a customized co-branded promotional flyer that promoted HBA Rebates along with the support of HBA Georgia and HBA of South Georgia. This custom promotional flyer is something that HBA Rebates will provide as a service to any state or local HBA upon request. Customized co-branding and sizing is a reliable option to support effective promotion of HBA Rebates.
The HBA of South Georgia model exemplified the use of member benefits as an effective membership retention and recruitment tool along with a reliable source of non-dues revenue.
Growing Participation Reflects Program Success
The baseline participation in HBA Rebates was set at the 2018 participation of 12 HBASG builder members participating.
In 2019, 20 HBASG builder members participated in HBA Rebates.
In 2020, 22 HBASG builder members participated in HBA Rebates.
Since 2020 HBASG builder member participation in HBA Rebates has remained at an average of 20 builder members participating annually.
